June is a month for celebrating inclusion and love around the world, better known as Pride Month. At SRISA, we support and celebrate with our LGBTQ+ family and community—it’s a time to honor love, identity, and expression in all their beautiful forms.
Pride Month, Italy
While Pride Month may have originated in the United States, Italy has a lot to offer in terms of Pride celebrations. Tuscany, in particular, has a rich history in supporting LGBTQ+ rights. It has been a pioneer in the fight against discrimination since Leopold II in 1853, who abolished penalties for homosexuality during his rule. Below are some exciting events happening in Tuscany this year that you won’t want to miss!
Toscana Pride Events, Grosseto
Grosseto will be hosting from Florence to Grosseto. Pay attention to return times as trains do not run late at night. We would suggest staying overnight to enjoy all of the festivities. Known worldwide for the city’s tree-lined Medicean Walls and blending of Etruscan history with costal nature. On June 13th, they’ll be hosting several events at the Centro Per L’arte Contemporanea “Luigi Pecci.” Events range from talks, performances, and DJ sets well into the night.
Pride March (Toscana Pride)
The 2026 Toscana Pride March’s theme is “Dai margini irrompiamo, ovunque resistiamo” From the margins, we rise up; everywhere, we resist. The march begins in Piazza Esperanto, starting at 4 pm. This collective celebration creates a safe, welcoming community where everyone belongs. Each year, thousands of queer community members fill the streets in a peaceful protest demanding greater rights and equality.
Pride March, Bologna
The Bologna Pride march, Rivolta Pride, will take place in Bologna on Saturday, June 13. Bologna is easily accessible from Florence Santa Maria Novella station by high-speed train in approximately 45 minutes.
Santo Spirito and Oltrarno
Local venues and bars around the Oltrarno and Santo Spirito neighborhoods are operating as primary meet-up spots for the local community. Pop-up parties like the Mamamia in Florence nightlife series are slated across local clubs.
Daily Happenings
In case you simply want a fun night out close to home, there are plenty of places that are LGBTQ+ friendly in Florence. La Compagnia.
More Ways to Celebrate
June isn’t the only time of the year to celebrate Pride; it’s always a good time to celebrate community and continue the fight for equality. Keep an eye out for the Florence Queer Festival happening from November 26 – 30th. Whether you’re marching in Grosseto or other parts of Italy this June or sipping cocktails at Twist, Pride in Italy is full of love and community year-round.
ArcigaymerZ
On June 14th, you can join Arcigay for their casual game night. Arcigay is an LGBTQ+ safe community here in Florence, and they’re hosting their last game night before summer officially starts. From 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm, enjoy meeting new people through various board games.
SRISA is More Than Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow
Our community is made up of all shades and colors ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍. We celebrate queer voices all year long—with events, gatherings, and a curated collection of queer literature in our library that honors the richness of LGBTQIA+ stories and perspectives.
We celebrate queer voices with at least one event each term, helping students connect and build community. Our year-round activities include talks, film screenings, hikes, aperitivo and pizza nights.
Because of the distance from Florence, we will not be joining the Toscana Pride march in Grosseto this year. Instead, we are celebrating locally with a screen-printing workshop to create Pride T-shirts and community gatherings to watch queer films together. All screenings will begin at 7:00 PM on the Santa Reparata Campus.
