I have a huge sweet tooth, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t come to Italy partly for the food. So you can imagine my excitement at the amount of Gelateria’s around Florence. Already in my first week here I’ve had gelato 3 times. I wish I could say my gelato intake will decrease with time, I’d like to think I’ll fit in my pants by the end of my time here, but some things just won’t be so. Though it’s not every semester you get to study abroad and live minutes away from some of the worlds best gelato. So I want to share some of my favorite gelato places I’ve discovered so far and HIGHLY encourage you to enjoy them for yourselves.
Edoardo il Gelato Biologico
Piazza del Duomo 45R 50122 Firenze
Price for two scoops in a cup: 2.50
Flavor to try: Canella (cinnamon)
Definitely the best gelato I’ve had so far, Edoardo’s Cinnamon melts in your mouth and leaves a smooth, sugary velvet touch of cinnamon on your tounge. Let your mouth experience the heaven, and then take another bite.
What to try with Canella: For a more intense duo, combine it with Chocolate, for a lighter feel get it with Crema
Also good: Blueberry – if you want more of a refreshing taste
Grom
Via del Campanile, 2, 50122 Firenze (really close to the Duomo)
Price for two scoops in a cup: 2.50
Flavor to try: Raspberry
Super fruity and refreshing, this sorbet tastes like you put a handful of raspberries in your mouth all at once, and they’re at the perfect ripeness. Plus, you can totally get away with feeling good about yourself cause you had “fruit” today!
Le Botteghe di Leonardo
Via De’ Ginori 21/R Firenze
Flavor to try: Cocoa
When I went here I was actually craving some chocolate cake. This did not let me down, It is so intense, so packed of chocolate, the perfect amount of sweet and bitter, it’s thick and creamy and leaves a sensational aftertaste on your tongue.
