Artist Andrew Smaldone: Along Similar Lines
Opening
Wednesday, Februray 22 at 7:30PM
Mercoledì 22 Febbraio – ore 19:30
SRISA Project Space – Firenze
February 22nd at 7:30, at the SRISA Project Space, Andrew Smaldone, will present a selection of paintings and works on paper that continue his research into the rendering of architectural space through paint and ink. The works take as their subject matter architecture from the Antebellum Era in the United States Southeast in conjunction with historical images concerning the study of perspective and geometry by the 16th century Dutch artist Jan Vredeman de Vries.
What links the works in this show is their emphasis on focus or a lack thereof in any given work. This could mean that Smaldone has created a purposely-faded transfer of a reproduction of an old etching by de Vries, or that he has knowingly cultivated an unfinished look in a painting. Attention, therefore, is given over to subtle tonal shifts, in burnt sienna and grey, as a means to distill a thought process visually and reconsider the importance of the past in the present.

I wish I could be there more than you understand. Go DJ Drew!
